 Message from Eugene Boyle, owner, CyberSprockets“Boise, Idaho may be fast becoming a metropolitan city, but I have lived here since 1967 and I can still see the small town mindset and attitude. As a seven year old walking along Main St., downtown, with my parents, I remember shopkeepers out on the sidewalk calling out greetings to us by name. There used to be an ice cream and soda shop on Main and the proprietor would bring out free samples for my sister and me. They would ask about our latest birthday party or family vacation. My folks would inquire as to their spouses and children. It was idyllic. Folks did business with other folks that were recommended to them by family and friends. Prices didn’t really matter as much as reputation did. For the longest time, I did no advertising for CyberSprockets and The HardDrive Shop. People got my name and number from their family, friends and associates. Whenever I got a call from a prospective client, it usually began like this: ‘Hi, a friend of mine told me to call you. I have a problem with…..’ or ‘I was at a shop in town and I asked them how they ________ for their business. They said that you ________. Could you do that for our shop?’ In other words, I didn’t have to ‘sell’ CyberSprockets to them; their friends and family had already done that. Boise is still that way and with the advent of the Internet, the world is little more like that as well. CyberSprockets still has no media or print advertising budgeted, but we are constantly rated and critiqued by our clients on the web. We strive to maintain our good reputation and we still rely on word of mouth for advertising and promotion. Admittedly, as we have grown, we have failed to satisfy 100% of our customers 100% of the time. In those (rare!) instances, we do our best to make it right.
